Ranger is a mill dog and has awful teeth. Lack of good nutrition, biting on wire, etc. - his teeth are bad. He had 14 or 16 teeth removed at his first dental. After this dental, it looks like he only has eight teeth left. One side of his mouth - he has no lower teeth. Other side - no upper teeth. A few snaggleteeth here and there. His one leg is one that got caught in the wire cage at the mill - so they were not able to put the IV in that leg. The other leg was developing a type of hot spot/infection, so needless to say, the IV created some problems.
I picked him up from the vets office and he was just so out of it. I was hoping he'd be happy to see me, but he was just so drugged up. The next two weeks were tough. They treated his hot spot area with medication and we were told not to let him touch it for 2 weeks! So, Josh and I actually took turns sleeping in the same room as Ranger to ensure he didn't go after it at night. Well, he bit off his bandage and had to wear an e-collar for 2 weeks! He didn't want to eat anything. After a few days, the only thing he'd eat was home-cooked meals. So, he had some yummy meals with hamburger, chicken, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, rice, and baby food! He is unable to eat big kibble since it just falls out of his mouth, so he now eats Nature's Variety and seems to be doing well. It's the smallest kibble I've ever seen!
Here are some pics from Ranger's dental journey!
Before pic (Sorry, no after pic):
Here he is at home - after I picked him up. He was so out of it.

He actually didn't mind the e-collar one bit. After a while, he would run when we tried to put it on - but once on, he was fine.
He had an infection in his mouth which caused awful breath. After that dental and losing many teeth, the bad breath is gone. I don't care if he pants in my face anymore! :-) So, despite two weeks of struggles, it was all worth it in the end. He's much healthier and hopefully much happier!
